A Note From Tânia-Maria
After more than a decade as an Independent Partner with Zurvita and now Zinzino, customers often ask me to walk them through the differences between the Zurvita Zeal formulas before deciding what fits their lifestyle. My honest answer has evolved over the years, and today I confidently recommend the Zurvita Zeal Vegan formula or the Zurvita Zeal Guaraná-Free option for almost everyone who asks.
This recommendation is personal as much as professional. As a pescatarian who chooses not to eat meat, the plant-based Vegan formula aligns with my dietary values. As someone whose sleep is sensitive to caffeine, the Guaraná-Free option means I can drink my Zeal at any time of day without worrying about restless nights. These are formulas I genuinely use, not products I simply promote.
This guide exists because there is no comprehensive online resource that walks through what’s actually in the Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas, ingredient by ingredient, with both the nutritional science and the lived experience of someone who first learned about Zurvita in 2008, joined as an Independent Consultant in 2011, and has used these products ever since.
Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-sensitive, kosher-observant, caffeine-conscious, or simply someone who wants to understand what you are drinking, this guide will give you the complete picture.
Let’s start with what Zurvita Zeal for Life Wellness Drink actually is, then I’ll walk you through every ingredient in the Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas, how it compares, what each one does, where it comes from, and why I trust them.

What is Zurvita Zeal for Life Wellness Drink?
Understanding Zurvita Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free Formulas
Zurvita Zeal for Life Wellness Drink is a proprietary nutritional drink mix combining 27 botanicals and 56 total whole-food nutrients in a single daily serving. Originally launched by Zurvita in 2011 and now part of the Zinzino family of products, Zeal for Life Wellness has become one of the most recognized whole-food nutrition drinks in the wellness industry.
Zurvita Zeal for Life Wellness comes in two distinct formula types and a variety of flavors that often confuse new customers. Let me clarify how the formulas actually work and explain why I specifically recommend the Vegan and Guaraná-Free options.
Three Distinct Formulas
Zurvita Zeal Classic Formula is the original whole-food nutritional drink, available in Wild Berry, Mango, and Peach Passion flavors. It contains naturally-sourced caffeine from Guaraná Seed Powder. Recent ingredient list updates show the Classic formula now uses Swerve as a sweetener, which is a blend of erythritol and maltodextrin. For reasons I will explain in this guide, this is not the formula I personally recommend.
Zurvita Zeal Vegan Formula is plant-based and certified Vegan, Kosher, and Gluten-Free. Sweetened naturally with crystalline fructose and stevia leaf, the Vegan formula comes in three flavors: Wild Berry, Tropic Dream, and Bold Grape. It contains naturally-sourced caffeine from Guaraná Seed Powder. This is one of two formulas I confidently recommend.
Zurvita Zeal Guaraná-Free uses the same plant-based Vegan formula base, available in Wild Berry only, with the Guaraná seed extract omitted. Per Zinzino’s labeling, formulas without Guaraná’s naturally-occurring caffeine are marked Guaraná-Free. This is the formula I personally use for evening servings or anytime caffeine sensitivity is a concern.
Quick Reference: Formula and Flavor Availability
| Formula | Flavors Available | Dietary Classifications |
| Zeal Vegan | Wild Berry, Tropic Dream, Bold Grape | Certified Vegan, Kosher, Gluten-Free, naturally sweetened with crystalline fructose and stevia leaf, naturally-sourced caffeine from guaraná |
| Zeal Guaraná-Free | Wild Berry | Certified Vegan, Kosher, Gluten-Free, naturally sweetened with crystalline fructose and stevia leaf, no caffeine |
| Zeal Classic | Wild Berry, Mango, Peach Passion | Contains Swerve (erythritol + maltodextrin) as sweetener, naturally-sourced caffeine from guaraná |
Why I Recommend Zurvita Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free Formulas
After more than a decade of personal use, customer conversations, and watching this product evolve, my recommendation has settled firmly on the Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas. Here is the honest reasoning behind that choice.
The Pescatarian Connection
As a pescatarian, I do not eat meat. The Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas do not include Tyrosine, an amino acid that, per the original 2021 Zurvita Nutrient Glossary, was historically documented as animal-derived in the Classic formula. The plant-based formulas are a natural fit for anyone following a vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian lifestyle. This is not a small detail. For those of us who choose plant-based eating, ingredient sourcing matters.
The Sleep and Caffeine Reality
Caffeine affects my sleep, even when consumed earlier in the day. The Guaraná-Free formula gives me the option to drink Zeal at any hour without compromising my rest. For evening servings, post-workout recovery, or simply when I want the nutritional benefits without the natural caffeine boost from guaraná, the Guaraná-Free formula is my answer. The Vegan formula is what I reach for in the morning when I do want that gentle, sustained energy.
The Sweetener Choice
The Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas are sweetened naturally with crystalline fructose and stevia leaf. Stevia leaf comes from the South American Stevia rebaudiana plant and has been used as a natural sweetener for generations, with negligible impact on blood glucose levels. Crystalline fructose is a naturally occurring sugar found in fruit. This combination provides clean, plant-based sweetness without the artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols that dominate many wellness products today.

The Certifications That Matter
The Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas are certified Vegan, Kosher, and Gluten-Free. These are not marketing terms. They are formal certifications that require ingredient sourcing, manufacturing, and quality controls to meet specific standards. For households with multiple dietary preferences or restrictions, these certifications make Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free accessible to nearly everyone at the table.
What This Recommendation Means for You
If you are vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian, the Vegan or Guaraná-Free formula respects your dietary choices. If you keep kosher or follow gluten-free eating, the certifications protect those commitments. If caffeine sensitivity is part of your daily considerations, the Guaraná-Free option gives you the nutritional benefits without the stimulant, and if you simply want the cleanest, most plant-forward version of Zeal, these are the formulas to choose.
Now let us walk through what is actually in these formulas, ingredient by ingredient.
Stabilized Rice Bran: The Foundation of Zeal
When you read the ingredient label on a packet of Zurvita Zeal for Life Wellness Drink, the very first ingredient listed is Soluble Stabilized Rice Bran and Rice Germ. That is not by accident. Stabilized rice bran is the foundation everything else in the formula is built upon.
So what is it, exactly?
What is Stabilized Rice Bran?
Rice bran is the nutrient-rich outer layer of the rice grain. When brown rice gets milled into white rice, this layer is stripped away, and with it, most of the rice grain’s vitamins, minerals, and beneficial compounds.
Here is the catch: traditional rice bran goes rancid within hours of being milled. That is why for decades, this incredibly nutritious ingredient was treated as a byproduct rather than a food. Modern stabilization technology solves that problem, locking in the nutrition without using harsh chemicals or heat.
The result is a shelf-stable, water-soluble whole food packed with what your body actually needs.

What Is Inside Stabilized Rice Bran?
Quite a lot, actually. In a single whole-food ingredient, stabilized rice bran provides:
- Vitamins — the full B-complex plus vitamin E
- Minerals — magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and zinc
- All nine essential amino acids — the protein building blocks your body cannot make on its own
- Omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids — in a naturally balanced ratio
- Soluble and insoluble fiber — supporting digestion
- Plant compounds — including gamma-oryzanol, an antioxidant rice bran is famous for
That last one deserves a closer look.
A Closer Look at Gamma-Oryzanol
Gamma-oryzanol is a natural compound found primarily in rice bran. Researchers have been studying it for decades, and recent research continues to validate what traditional nutrition has long suggested.
A 2024 meta-analysis in the journal Nutrients reviewed 11 controlled studies and found that rice bran consumption demonstrated meaningful lipid-modulating effects across diverse populations. The compounds doing the work? Gamma-oryzanol, tocotrienols, and natural phytosterols.
In plain language: rice bran isn’t just food. It’s functional food, with measurable benefits backed by research.
This is why gamma-oryzanol gets its own dedicated spot on the Zeal label, listed separately as the second ingredient right after the stabilized rice bran itself.
Why Stabilized Rice Bran Matters in Zeal
Most nutritional drinks start with synthetic vitamins assembled in a lab, then mix in flavors and fillers. Zeal takes the opposite approach: start with a complete whole food, then enhance it with targeted botanicals and nutrients.
In my experience as an Independent Partner since 2011, this is one of the qualities that sets Zeal apart. The stabilized rice bran foundation is the reason I think of Zeal as a functional food rather than just a supplement.
The 25+ Botanicals in Zurvita Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free
Beyond the stabilized rice bran foundation, Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free contain botanicals sourced from around the world. Each one was selected for specific nutritional properties and traditional wellness use. Let us walk through them alphabetically.
Note: The Vegan formula contains all botanicals listed below, including Guaraná Seed Extract. The Guaraná-Free formula contains the same botanicals with the exception of Guaraná Seed Extract.
Açaí Berry Powder
Native to the Amazon rainforest of South America, açaí berries (pronounced AH-sigh-EE) come from a palm tree found primarily along the Amazon River. The dark purple berries are celebrated for their unusually high antioxidant content. According to research compilations, açaí contains a wider variety of antioxidants than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry. As someone with Brazilian roots, I appreciate that this superfood comes from the same Amazon basin where guaraná originates.
Alfalfa Leaf Powder
The word “alfalfa” comes from the Arabic phrase al-fac-facah, meaning “father of all foods.” The plant lives up to that name. Alfalfa has an extensive root system that absorbs minerals deeply from the soil, resulting in a leaf rich in the entire B-vitamin spectrum, plus vitamins A, D, E, and K. It also provides iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and chlorophyll. Compared to most plants, alfalfa is exceptionally high in protein and amino acids.
Aloe Vera Powder with Polysaccharides
Aloe vera is one of humanity’s oldest medicinal plants, used for over 6,000 years across Egyptian, Spanish, Persian, Greek, Italian, African, Japanese, and Indian traditions. The aloe used in Zeal is a powder form that retains the plant’s natural phytochemicals, including mannans, polysaccharides, lectins, and anthraquinones. Aloe vera is traditionally used to support a healthy gastrointestinal system. Zinzino’s specification “with aloe polysaccharides” indicates the product is processed to preserve these specific compounds.
Ashwagandha Powder
Ashwagandha is a low-lying perennial shrub native to Africa, the Mediterranean, and India. In traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha has been used for centuries to support overall health and longevity. The botanical name, Withania somnifera, hints at its traditional use as a support for restful sleep (somnifera means “sleep-inducing”). Modern research has examined ashwagandha for antioxidant properties and its potential role in supporting the body’s response to stress.
Bacopa Extract
Also known as Brahmi, bacopa is a herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to support memory and cognitive function. The plant grows in wetlands across India and parts of Australia. Modern research has examined bacopa for antioxidant properties and its potential to support brain and nervous system function. Bacopa is one of several botanicals in Zeal that traditional medicine systems have used for cognitive support.
Broccoli Powder
Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable that you likely already know well. The powder form in Zeal delivers concentrated nutrition from this familiar vegetable, including sulforaphane, a plant compound studied for its potential antioxidant and detoxification support. Broccoli sprouts and mature broccoli both contribute to bone health, healthy aging, digestive support, and the body’s natural detoxification processes.
Chlorella Powder
Chlorella is a single-celled green algae that grows in fresh water. Its name comes from the Greek “chloros” meaning green, referring to its high chlorophyll content. Chlorella is one of nature’s most nutritionally dense organisms, containing complete protein with all essential amino acids, plus B-vitamins, minerals, fiber, and a unique compound called Chlorella Growth Factor. It is also studied for its ability to bind to certain heavy metals, supporting natural detoxification processes.
Cranberry Powder
Cranberries are one of nature’s lowest-calorie sources of vitamin C and dietary fiber. They contain higher concentrations of health-supporting antioxidants than most other common fruits. Cranberries are widely recognized for supporting urinary tract health, with multiple clinical studies validating their traditional use. The powder form in Zeal preserves the antioxidant profile while making the nutrition more concentrated and convenient.
Fennel Seed Powder
Fennel is a perennial herb with yellow flowers, native to the Mediterranean but now grown worldwide. Dried fennel seeds have been used in cooking for thousands of years, particularly in Italian, Indian, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Beyond its anise-like flavor, fennel has traditionally been used to support healthy digestion and respiratory function. The seeds contain natural compounds including anethole, fenchone, and estragole that contribute to its therapeutic reputation.
Goji Berry Extract
Goji berries are bright orange-red berries from a shrub native to China. They have been consumed for generations in traditional Chinese medicine and are believed to support healthy aging. The berries are rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and contain unique polysaccharides that have been studied for their potential health-supporting properties. Goji has also been traditionally used to support healthy blood sugar levels and maintain normal blood pressure.
Gotu Kola Powder
Gotu kola is a slender creeping plant that grows commonly in swampy areas of India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, South Africa, and tropical regions. In Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, gotu kola has been used for centuries as a tonic for memory and mental clarity. Modern research has examined gotu kola for its potential to support cognitive function, the body’s natural collagen production, and healthy mood. It is one of several adaptogens in the Zeal formula.
Grape Seed Extract
Grape seed extract is derived from the seeds of red wine grapes. Grapes have been consumed in Europe for their health benefits for thousands of years. The extract is particularly rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), a class of plant compounds with strong antioxidant properties. Research has examined grape seed extract for its potential role in supporting healthy circulation and cardiovascular wellness.
Green Tea Extract
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) has been used in China since approximately 2737 B.C. The leaves contain polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), considered one of the world’s most powerful natural antioxidants. Some research suggests EGCG can deliver antioxidant protection significantly stronger than many other natural sources. Green tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that pairs with the natural caffeine to support calm focus and mental alertness.
Guaraná Seed Extract (Vegan formula only)
Guaraná is special to me as someone with Brazilian heritage. Native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil, guaraná is a climbing plant in the maple family. The seeds, about the size of coffee beans, contain about twice the concentration of caffeine found in coffee seeds (2 to 4.5% versus 1 to 2%). Beyond caffeine, guaraná seeds contain natural tannins, theobromine, and antioxidants that contribute to a different quality of energy than coffee — gentler, more sustained, with less of the abrupt crash. Note: The Guaraná-Free formula omits this ingredient for those who prefer to avoid caffeine.
Kudzu Root Powder
Kudzu is a climbing vine introduced to North America in 1876 from East Asia. In the southeastern United States, kudzu is now considered an invasive plant, but in traditional Chinese medicine it has been valued for over 2,000 years. The root contains isoflavones and other compounds traditionally used to support healthy blood circulation. More recent research has examined kudzu for its potential role in metabolic wellness and exercise recovery.
Lychee Powder
Lychee fruit comes from the soapberry family and grows on trees in tropical and subtropical climates, primarily in southern China and Southeast Asia. Lychee is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin, folic acid, copper, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and manganese. The fruit is also a notable source of proanthocyanidins and polyphenolic compounds, plant antioxidants studied for their potential health-supporting properties.
Maca Powder
Maca is a cruciferous root vegetable native to the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, related to broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and turnip. Remarkably, maca is the only edible plant capable of growing at altitudes between 9,000 and 14,500 feet, surviving harsh weather, rocky soil, and thin air. Indigenous Andean peoples have cultivated maca for over a thousand years, traditionally using it as an adaptogen to support stamina, endurance, energy, hormone balance, and healthy mood. Maca contains approximately 60 phytonutrients including alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and glucosinolates.
Milk Thistle Powder
Milk thistle is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean that now grows wild throughout northern Europe and North America. Its active compound, silymarin, has been studied extensively for liver health support. Traditional European herbalism has used milk thistle for liver wellness for over 2,000 years. The plant gets its name from the white veins on its leaves, said in folklore to be drops of the Virgin Mary’s milk.
Moringa Oleifera Powder
Moringa oleifera is sometimes called “the miracle tree” or “the tree of life” because of its extraordinary nutritional density. Native to the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India, moringa is now cultivated throughout Africa, Central America, and South America. The leaves contain essential amino acids, beta-carotene, vitamin C, calcium, iron, and a wide spectrum of phytonutrients. Moringa has been used as both food and traditional medicine across many cultures, particularly in regions where nutritional access has been historically challenging.
Noni Juice Powder
Noni is a small evergreen tree native to the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, Australia, and India. The fruit has been used for over 2,000 years in traditional Polynesian medicine. Noni contains many essential nutrients and phytochemicals, including potassium, vitamin C, and unique compounds called iridoids that are being studied for their potential health-supporting properties. The powder form in Zeal preserves these nutrients in a stable, concentrated form.
Red Ginseng Powder
Panax ginseng, also known as Korean red ginseng, is a perennial plant native to Korea, northeastern China, and far eastern Siberia. It has been used in traditional Asian medicine for over 2,000 years. The root contains active compounds called ginsenosides (also known as panaxosides) that have been studied for their adaptogenic properties. Red ginseng is traditionally used to support stamina, mental focus, work efficiency, and the body’s response to physical stress.
Stevia Leaf
Stevia, also known as sweet leaf, is a traditional South American herb that has been used as a natural sweetener for centuries by indigenous peoples of Paraguay and Brazil. The leaves contain natural compounds called steviol glycosides that taste sweet but have negligible effect on blood glucose levels. Stevia is approximately 200-300 times sweeter than sugar by weight, allowing for sweetness in tiny amounts. It is one of the natural sweeteners used in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free, paired with crystalline fructose.
Turmeric Extract
Turmeric is a spice that has been used in Indian cooking and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. The active compound, curcumin, is responsible for turmeric’s bright yellow color and most of its researched properties. Curcumin is a potent antioxidant that has been studied extensively for its potential to support healthy inflammation response. Modern research continues to examine turmeric for various wellness applications, making it one of the most-studied botanicals in the Zeal formula.
Wild Blueberry Powder
Wild blueberries are smaller, more nutrient-dense cousins of cultivated blueberries. They contain higher concentrations of anthocyanins, the deep blue-purple antioxidants that give berries their color. Per serving, wild blueberries rank among the most antioxidant-rich foods available. The anthocyanins in wild blueberries have been studied for their potential to support healthy aging, cognitive function, and overall wellness across all life stages.
Yerba Mate Powder
Yerba mate is a plant native to South America, particularly popular in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay. As a Brazilian, I grew up familiar with mate tea, which has been a cultural staple for generations. The leaves contain natural caffeine (0.7 to 1.7 percent by dry weight), theobromine, and a wide range of antioxidants and minerals. Traditionally consumed as a brewed tea, yerba mate is recognized for providing alertness and focus while also delivering nutritional support.
Important note: Yerba mate contains naturally occurring caffeine, which means it is present even in the Guaraná-Free formula. The amount is significantly less than coffee, but those with extreme caffeine sensitivity should be aware. See the “Understanding Caffeine in Zeal” section below for more detail.
Yeast Beta Glucan Powder
Beta glucan is a soluble fiber found in oats, barley, mushrooms, and yeast. The yeast-derived beta glucan in Zeal is specifically chosen for its immune-supporting properties. Research has examined beta glucan for its potential to support the body’s natural immune response, healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range, and overall wellness. The yeast-derived form is generally considered to have stronger immune-supporting properties than oat or barley sources.
Omniline (Proprietary)
Omniline is listed as an ingredient in the Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas. As of this writing, Zinzino has not yet publicly disclosed the specific composition of Omniline. We have requested specifications and will update this guide when complete information is available. Until then, we are noting Omniline transparently as a proprietary component of the formula.
Each of these botanicals contributes unique nutritional and phytochemical compounds to the Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas. The synergy of these whole-food plant ingredients, combined with the stabilized rice bran foundation, is what makes Zeal more than a multivitamin. It is functional food, with each ingredient chosen for both its individual properties and its complement to the overall formula.
The Vitamins and Minerals in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free
Beyond the botanicals, Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free deliver a comprehensive vitamin and mineral profile. Some come naturally from the stabilized rice bran and botanical ingredients. Others are added to ensure each serving provides meaningful nutritional support across multiple categories.
The Vitamin Profile
- Vitamin A — supports vision, immune function, and skin health
- Vitamin C — water-soluble antioxidant essential for collagen formation and immune defense
- Vitamin D — supports bone health, calcium absorption, and immune function
- Thiamin (Vitamin B1) — supports the body’s ability to convert food into energy
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) — supports cellular energy production and skin, hair, and eye health
- Niacin (Vitamin B3) — supports healthy lipid metabolism and energy production
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) — supports protein metabolism, red blood cell formation, and nervous system function
- Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5) — known as the “anti-stress vitamin” for its role in adrenal function
- Biotin (Vitamin B7) — supports healthy hair, skin, nails, and metabolism
The Mineral Profile
The mineral content in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free comes from a combination of the stabilized rice bran foundation, the botanical ingredients, and the listed Ionic and Fulvic Minerals.
- Magnesium — involved in over 300 chemical reactions in the body
- Manganese — supports bone formation and cholesterol metabolism
- Phosphorus — works with calcium for bones and teeth
- Potassium — essential electrolyte for heart, muscle, and nerve function
- Selenium — antioxidant mineral
- Zinc — involved in over 200 enzyme reactions, supports immune function
- Iron — essential for hemoglobin and oxygen transport
What Are Ionic and Fulvic Minerals?
Ionic minerals are minerals dissolved in their elemental ionic form, making them readily absorbable by the cells lining the intestinal tract. Fulvic minerals come from ancient plant matter and act as natural electrolyte and nutrient transporters. Together, they support nutrient absorption, enzyme reactions, healthy acid-alkaline balance, and overall mineral assimilation.
The Plant-Derived Amino Acids in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and three plant-derived amino acids appear on the Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free ingredient lists: L-Arginine, Glycine, and L-Lysine. Each plays a distinct role in the body’s processes, and their plant-based sourcing is part of what makes these formulas suitable for vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian diets.
L-Arginine
L-Arginine is an amino acid involved in numerous functions throughout the body, including kidney function, immune response, and hormone production. In the body, arginine is converted into nitric oxide, which helps blood vessels relax and supports healthy circulation. While arginine is found in red meat, fish, poultry, and dairy, the L-Arginine in Zeal is plant-derived, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Glycine
Glycine is the simplest amino acid and serves as a building block for many proteins. The body uses glycine to make collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, which supports skin, joints, and connective tissue health. Glycine also plays a role in transmission of chemical signals in the brain. The glycine in Zeal is plant-derived.
L-Lysine
L-Lysine is an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot produce it on its own and must obtain it from food. Lysine plays a major role in calcium absorption, building muscle protein, and the production of hormones, enzymes, and antibodies. The lysine in Zeal is plant-derived, supporting the formula’s vegan and vegetarian compatibility.
What’s NOT in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free: Animal-Derived Ingredients
This is an important detail for those choosing the Vegan or Guaraná-Free formula. Per the original 2021 Zurvita Nutrient Glossary, the Zeal Classic formula has historically contained an amino acid called Tyrosine, documented as animal-derived. Tyrosine is an essential building block for proteins and serves as a precursor to neurotransmitters that support mental focus.
The Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas omit Tyrosine entirely. For vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians like myself, and anyone seeking certified Vegan, Kosher, and Gluten-Free nutrition, the certified plant-based formulas remove this consideration entirely.
Per historical Zurvita documentation, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) in the Classic formula was derived from lanolin oil, which is sourced from sheep’s wool. The Vegan formula did not contain cholecalciferol, making it suitable for those avoiding all animal-derived ingredients. This is another example of how the plant-based formulas were intentionally formulated to support vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian dietary practices.

Prebiotics, Fibers, and Supporting Compounds
The remaining ingredients in Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free contribute to digestive support, formula stability, and the overall nutritional matrix. While these may sound technical, each plays a meaningful role in the formula.
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) from Chicory Root
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are part of a group of dietary fibers known as prebiotics. Unlike probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria, prebiotics are food for the beneficial bacteria that already live in your gut. The FOS in Zeal comes from chicory root, a plant in the dandelion family. Prebiotics support a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which research increasingly shows is connected to nearly every aspect of overall wellness.
Crystalline Fructose
Crystalline fructose is a naturally occurring simple sugar found in fruit and honey. It is at least 98 percent fructose, with the remainder being water and minerals. Compared to other sugars including honey, table sugar, and high-fructose corn syrup, crystalline fructose has less impact on blood sugar levels. It also delivers more sweetness per gram, allowing for less to be used while achieving the same level of sweetness.
Citric Acid
Citric acid is a naturally occurring weak acid found in citrus fruits and many other plants. It serves three roles in Zeal: contributing to flavor balance, acting as a natural preservative, and supporting the body’s metabolism through its role in the Krebs cycle (the energy production cycle in cells).
Potassium Citrate
Potassium citrate is a well-absorbed combination of potassium (an essential mineral electrolyte) and citric acid. Potassium supports heart, muscle, kidney, nerve, and digestive system function. The citrate form is particularly bioavailable, meaning the body can absorb and use it efficiently.
The Clinical Research Behind Zeal
One of the qualities that distinguishes Zeal from many wellness drinks is the actual clinical research behind it. While the Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas have evolved from the original Zurvita Zeal, the foundational research on the core formula provides meaningful context.
The KGK Synergize Study
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study conducted by the independent third-party research firm KGK Synergize evaluated the effects of Zeal on healthy, moderately stressed adults over 28 days. Using the Profile of Mood State (POMS) questionnaire, considered the gold standard for measuring mood across multiple emotional dimensions, the study examined whether Zeal produced measurable benefits.
The Results
After 28 days of consuming two servings of Zeal daily, 85 percent of study participants reported significant improvements. The measured outcomes included:
- 23 percent increase in vigor and energy
- 11 percent reduction in anxiety
- 10 percent reduction in fatigue
- 9 percent reduction in anger and hostility
- 9 percent reduction in confusion
- 7 percent reduction in dejection
What makes this study notable is its design. KGK Synergize tested Zeal on average healthy adults who were not specifically trying to improve their mood through any organized program. The improvements occurred simply through adding Zeal to their daily routines.
Journal of the American College of Nutrition
Zeal has also been featured in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, a peer-reviewed publication accepting submissions on innovative nutritional research with practical applications for physicians and healthcare specialists. The published findings confirmed the original clinical study results: two servings of Zeal daily contribute to increased vitality and an overall sense of well-being.
Scientific Advisory Board Oversight
The Zurvita Scientific Advisory Board (now part of Zinzino’s Scientific Advisory Board structure) provides ongoing scientific oversight of the Zeal formulations. The board has historically included experts in nutrition, medicine, biochemistry, and natural products formulation.
For comprehensive information about the current Scientific Advisory Board members and their credentials, visit the dedicated Medical Advisory Board page on Healthroads.net.
How to Take Zurvita Zeal Vegan or Guaraná-Free
Taking Zeal is simple, but a few practical tips can help you get the most from your daily serving.
The Basic Method
Mix one packet (or one scoop from a bag) into 8 to 12 ounces of cold water. Stir or shake until fully dissolved. Drink immediately.
For Best Results
The KGK Synergize clinical study used two servings per day to achieve the documented results. While one serving daily provides nutritional support, two servings (one in the morning and one in the early afternoon) align with the research-validated protocol.
Personal Practice
I personally take one serving in the morning with ZinoBiotic+ to start my day with sustained nutritional support. On days when I have a more demanding schedule or want extra support, I will take a second serving in the early afternoon in my smoothie. For evening servings or anytime I want to avoid caffeine, I choose the Guaraná-Free formula.
Understanding Caffeine in Zurvita Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free
The terms “Guaraná-Free” and “caffeine-free” are not the same thing. This distinction matters for those highly sensitive to caffeine, and I want to address it transparently.
The Vegan formula contains naturally-sourced caffeine from three sources:
- Guaraná Seed Extract (the primary, concentrated source)
- Yerba Mate Powder (0.7 to 1.7 percent caffeine by dry weight)
- Green Tea Extract (per historical Zurvita documentation, the Green Tea used in Zeal Wellness was standardized at 50% EGCG content and considered decaffeinated, contributing antioxidant benefits while significantly reducing naturally occurring caffeine)
The Guaraná-Free formula removes the concentrated Guaraná Seed Extract, but yerba mate and green tea extract remain in the formula. This means Guaraná-Free contains some natural caffeine from those two botanicals, but the amount is dramatically reduced compared to the Vegan formula.
For context: a serving of Guaraná-Free Zeal likely contains far less caffeine than a single cup of black tea or green tea. From my personal experience as someone whose sleep is sensitive to caffeine, I do just fine with the Guaraná-Free formula. The small amount of caffeine naturally present from yerba mate has not been enough to disrupt my sleep, even when I consume Zeal later in the day. One practice I have followed for years: I never take Zeal on an empty stomach. Taking it with or after a small meal or snack helps with absorption and keeps the experience gentle on the digestive system.
If you are extremely caffeine-sensitive, pregnant, nursing, taking medications that interact with caffeine, or simply prefer absolutely zero caffeine, the Guaraná-Free formula may still contain trace amounts that affect you. Consult your healthcare practitioner if you have concerns.
For most people, the difference between Vegan and Guaraná-Free is significant enough that Guaraná-Free is genuinely well-tolerated for evening use, by people with mild to moderate caffeine sensitivity, and as a thoughtful choice for those wanting nutritional benefits without the energy boost of guaraná.
Who Are Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free Best For?
After more than a decade of conversations with customers, I have seen which types of people consistently benefit most from the Zeal Vegan and Guaraná-Free formulas.
Zeal Vegan Is a Good Fit For:
- Vegans, vegetarians, and pescatarians seeking comprehensive plant-based nutrition
- Those who follow Kosher dietary practices
- People with gluten sensitivity
- Anyone wanting natural sweeteners (crystalline fructose and stevia) instead of sugar alcohols or artificial sweeteners
- Active adults seeking sustained, gentle energy support from natural sources
- Those moving away from synthetic multivitamins toward whole-food-based supplementation
Zeal Guaraná-Free Is a Good Fit For:
- People sensitive to caffeine
- Those who prefer evening servings without sleep disruption
- Pregnant or nursing individuals (consult your healthcare practitioner)
- Anyone wanting comprehensive nutritional support without significant caffeine
- Users who alternate between Vegan in the morning and Guaraná-Free later in the day
These Formulas May Not Be Ideal For:
- Children under 18 (consult a pediatrician)
- People with specific allergies to listed ingredients
- Those taking medications that may interact with herbs or botanicals (consult your healthcare practitioner)
- People with extremely strict caffeine restrictions (the Guaraná-Free formula contains trace caffeine from yerba mate and green tea)
As with any nutritional supplement, individual results vary. The most important step before starting Zeal Vegan or Guaraná-Free, or any wellness routine, is the conversation you have with your physician or qualified healthcare practitioner about whether it is appropriate for your specific situation.
